Brush Fire Burns in Hills Near Glendale College, Off 2 Freeway

A brush fire was burning in a foothill area off the 2 Freeway in Glendale on Thursday afternoon.

The blaze was first reported at 1:45 p.m. in the area just south of Mountain Street at the 2 Freeway (map), according to the city’s Twitter account. It grew to about 2 acres by 2:30 p.m. and was about out by 2:45 p.m., the city stated.

Authorities on scene said about 80 firefighters were on scene, and helicopters were dropping water.

Mountain Street was closed between the freeway and Verdugo.

Traffic was congested in the area, according to the city, which advised drivers to travel carefully along the freeway and not be distracted by the flames.

The blaze was in a residential area and near Glendale College, but no evacuations were ordered.
