Guests were gathered at a child’s birthday party in the area of 97th Street and Vermont around 4:24 p.m. when shots were fired at them from inside a passing vehicle, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The boy was hit in the arm and his mother was struck in the chest, according to police, adding that they were transported to a hospital in stable condition.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a black Audi or Infiniti.

The four black male occupants of the vehicle were being sought, the LAPD said.
