The male driver of a pickup truck was in custody Saturday morning after a hit-and-run crash in Canoga Park left one motorcycle rider dead and another in critical condition, police said.

A caller reported the collision about 3:40 a.m. at the intersection of De Soto Avenue and Saticoy Street, said Detective Bill Bustos of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.

Investigators determined that a black Nissan truck was traveling westbound  at a high rate of speed on Saticoy when it veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided with a motorcycle that was making a left turn, Bustos said. The Nissan did not stop after the impact.

The motorcycle’s driver died as a result of the crash, according to the LAPD. A female passenger was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

The truck’s windshield was damaged and its front grill was recovered at the scene, Bustos said.

A debris field later led to the vehicle and the truck driver, who was being questioned by investigators, police said. His name was not immediately released.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Los Angeles Police Department at 818-644-8000.
