A transient was arrested in connection with the death of a man who was found lying on the ground of a Pasadena parking lot, police said Monday.

Officers and paramedics were sent to the 500 block of South Fair Oaks Avenue (map) when a 911 caller reported a man down at about 9:35 p.m. Sunday, the Pasadena Police Department stated in a news release.

Paramedics immediately tried to help the unconscious man, but he did not survive, the Police Department stated.

The identity of the 64-year-old man was not released by authorities and the cause of death was undetermined, according to the news release.

Investigators believe the man was involved in an altercation with 39-year-old Manuel Castillo, a Pasadena transient, before falling to the ground.

Castillo allegedly fled the scene following the incident, but was located by officers in the 400 block of South Arroyo Parkway.

Castillo was arrested on suspicion of homicide and was being held on $1 million bail, according to the news release.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Police Department at 626-744-4241 or Detective Bundy at 626-744-4511.
