An intruder was fatally shot by a resident after breaking into a San Pedro home early Friday morning, police said.

Officers responded about 3 a.m. to the 300 block of West 11th Street, where the homeowner shot the intruder with a handgun during a confrontation, said Capt. Gary Walters of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Division.

LAPD Officer Liliana Preciado told the L.A. Times that the wounded person was a man.

Firefighters transported him to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to Walters. He was not immediately identified.

“We have the resident, evidence and some other witnesses currently being interviewed,” the captain said, adding that the incident appeared to be isolated.
