Photos posted on Instagram purportedly show students at the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity house at UCLA with charcoal smeared on their cheeks and foreheads during a "Kanye Western"- themed party Tuesday night. Ellina Abovian reports from Westwood for the KTLA 5 News at 11 on Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2015.
Update: In a Facebook post dated Oct. 8, the fraternity addressed allegations of partygoers wearing blackface: "Some of our guests attended the event dressed as miners in reference to the Kanye West song 'Gold Digger,' but their attire had nothing to do with race. This does not excuse our lack of judgment in not recognizing the inappropriateness of the party theme and that other costumes were offensive." Read the full post here.
