Last year, more than half of the seasonal employees hired by the retail giant nationwide stayed on as permanent employees, according to Wal-Mart.

Wal-Mart was unable to provide a break-down of which regions or counties within California where the seasonal hiring would occur, but a spokesman said there are 302 locations in the state, with 44 of those in Los Angeles County.

The company currently has about 89,000 associates in California, and more than 2 million associates worldwide.
