Fontana Officer Fatally Shoots Allegedly Armed Man

An officer shot and killed a man in Fontana Friday accused of being armed while banging on his neighbor’s door, scaring the victim, according to local police.

Police responded to reports of a disturbance near Tangelo Avenue and San Jacinto Circle around 12:30 a.m., according to a Fontana Police Department news release.

The reporting party told officers he/she was scared because a male neighbor, who may have a weapon, was banging on the residence.

An officer then contacted the man, who did not comply with orders, the news release stated.

The officer then shot the man. He was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead around 1:30 a.m.

Police say the man had a firearm in his possession, but it was not known if the officer was aware of this at the time.

The officer was not harmed.
