Motorcycle Driver Killed in Collision With Minivan at Gardena Intersection

A motorcycle driver was killed late Thursday afternoon in a collision involving a minivan at an intersection in Gardena, authorities said.

The crash was reported about 5:20 p.m. at Rosecrans Boulevard and Purche Avenue (map), prompting a response from officers and Los Angeles County firefighters, according to a statement from the Gardena Police Department.

A preliminary investigation indicated that a white Honda minivan, with three occupants inside, was traveling eastbound on Rosecrans when it began turning northbound onto Purche, the news release said. The vehicle then collided with a Triumph motorcycle that was traveling westbound on Rosecrans, police said.

The motorcycle driver died as a result of the incident, according to the statement. A body was seen covered with a white sheet at the crash site, near a red motorcycle and helmet.

The victim’s name was being withheld pending notification of family, authorities said.

The minivan’s driver and two passengers were unharmed.

The collision was being investigated by the Police Department’s Traffic Bureau.
