At about 12:45 p.m., Sky5 video showed several LAPD units following a black four-door sedan to the intersection of North Vermont and Melbourne avenues, near East Hollywood, where the pursued car stopped and the driver opened his door.

The motorist briefly stepped out of the car, then got back in and shut the door. Afterward, a passenger exited the vehicle and surrendered to Los Angeles Police Department officers who had their weapons drawn.

Minutes later, the driver stepped out of the car and slowly rolled over onto the ground, in apparent compliance with the officers’ commands. He was subsequently taken into custody.

Police searched the vehicle, then pushed it out of the intersection and parked it along a nearby curb.

It was not immediately clear how the chase began.
