Man, 24, Killed in Hit-and-Run Collision in Newport Beach; 21-Year-Old Woman Arrested: Police
A 21-year-old woman was arrested on Saturday in connection with a hit-and-run collision that left a 24-year-old man dead in Newport Beach, police said.
The pedestrian was crossing the intersection of Newport Boulevard and 30th Street about 1:10 a.m. when he was struck by a Nissan 350Z, which fled the scene, according to a news release from the Newport Beach Police Department.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, the release stated. He was pronounced dead about an hour after the collision.
Orange County coroner’s officials identified the victim as Christopher Roth, a 24-year-old resident of Cypress.
Officers searched the area for the Nissan and found it abandoned near 19th and Court streets, an area approximately a half-mile away from the crash site.
After further investigation, they identified the driver as 21-year-old Nancy Diana Flores, police officials said. She was contacted in Paramount and later arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and hit-and-run resulting in death, the release stated.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the investigation.
