Woman Killed After Car Crashes, Catches Fire Near MacArthur Park

A woman was killed when she lost control of her vehicle, which hit a light pole and a building, overturned, caught fire and hit several parked cars in Westlake early Saturday morning, authorities said.

The crash occurred near MacArthur Park in the area of 7th and South Lake streets at about 2 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The woman, who has not been identified, was traveling westbound on 7th when she lost control of her vehicle and struck the light pole, crashed into a building and struck a parked truck, authorities said. This caused her vehicle to overturn and come to rest on a second vehicle.

Officers already in the area saw smoke coming from the vehicle and pulled the woman out before the vehicle became engulfed in flames, authorities said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
