Officer-Involved Shooting in Santa Ana Leaves 2 Dead After Burglary Call: Police Say

Police were investigating an officer-involved shooting in Santa Ana on Thursday afternoon that left two suspects dead and two others in custody.

The officers involved in the shooting were responding to a call of a burglary in progress around 3:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of East Fourth Street, according to Cpl. Anthony Bertagna with the Santa Ana Police Department.

When the officers arrived, they confronted at least four suspects, Bertagna said. During the confrontation, an officer-involved shooting occurred.

Two of the suspects were hit and died at the scene, according to Bertagna. Two others were taken into custody.

A gun was recovered at the scene. It was not known if there was an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and the officers, Bertagna said.

No officers were injured in the confrontation.

The location of the initial burglary call was not released.
