20-Year-Old Man Killed, 2 Seriously Injured in La Habra Car Crash
Investigators believed speed was a factor in a violent single-car wreck that left a 20-year-old man dead and two others injured in La Habra early Saturday morning, police said.
The fatal crash occurred around 12:15 a.m. in the area of La Habra Boulevard and McPherson Street, according to La Habra Police Department Sgt. Kyle David and video from the crash site.
Davis confirmed that one person was killed in the single-car collision.
The Orange County coroner’s office later identified the victim as 20-year-old Miguel Martinez Jr., of La Habra.
Martinez appeared to have been ejected from the vehicle, and his body could be seen lying under a white sheet near a sheared fire hydrant that was gushing water high into the air, video from the scene showed.
He was a passenger in the car, according to the coroner’s office.
Two other occupants were seriously injured and taken away by ambulance. Both were expected to survive, La Habra police Sgt. Dan Henderson said shortly after 7 a.m.
Henderson initially described the occupants as being in their late teens and early 20s.
Speed played a role in the collision, but there was no evidence of street racing, according to Henderson.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
