Authorities were searching for a hit-and-run driver after a multivehicle crash left one person dead and three others injured near Griffith Park on Saturday morning, authorities said.

Fire crews responded to a five-car crash on the southbound 5 Freeway at Colorado Boulevard shortly before 4 a.m., according to an alert from the Los Angeles Fire Department.

One person who was ejected from his or her vehicle onto the road was pronounced dead at the scene, said Officer Francisco Villalobos of the California Highway Patrol. The victim’s name has not been released.

Three other patients were taken to local hospital in unknown conditions, the alert stated.

Villalobos later described the crash as a hit-and-run, and said that one vehicle — a blue Hyundai — fled the scene and exited the freeway. He did not provide a description of the driver.

Several lanes on both the northbound and southbound sides of the freeway were closed in the morning hours after the fatal collision. The lanes were later reopened.

An investigation into what caused the crash was ongoing.
