A touching photograph showing an Arizona sheriff’s K-9 hugging his human partner has been shared thousands of times after being posted to Facebook.

The picture of K-9 “Manson” giving Deputy Chase Garrett a hug was initially shared by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department on Facebook last Wednesday.

While the heartwarming photo received thousands of likes and was shared hundreds of times after being posted by the department, the picture went viral after a local television station shared it on Facebook.

Garrett and Manson, a 5-year-old chocolate Labrador, have been partners for three years in the department’s Narcotics and Special Investigation Section. They “are an incredible team,” according to the department.

In an interview with television station KGUN, which covers the Tucson area, Garrett said his partner loves to give hugs.

“He’s a hugging dog. Most of the time, if we’re just sitting there, he’ll plop his head on my shoulder and just sit there like that,” he told the station.

Garrett called Manson a “great partner.” After their shifts conclude, the deputy takes his canine partner home with him.

“Even at home he just wants to be part of the family,” he said.

The deputy added he never imagined the overwhelming response the selfie would get, but he liked seeing his faithful partner get so much recognition.

“It’s good that the community actually likes police K-9s, and they care that much about them,” Garrett told the station.
