A photo taken of two little girls during nap time at their school is melting hearts across the Internet.

The touching picture was taken while the girls were sleeping on a mat at the Presbyterian Day School in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Along with the post is a Bible verse that reads, "Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God."

Teacher Olivia Ellis took the photo of the two 6-year-old girls, who are in her kindergarten class. In a phone interview with Today.com, she said the classmates "became best friends" almost immediately after meeting.

"I was walking around the classroom waking each child up after nap time," Ellis told the news outlet. "I flipped on the light and found them with their hands clenched, sound asleep — holding each other. It was really sweet. I knew I had to stop and get my camera."

She added that she hopes the photo will be a "positive influence" for others.

The picture has been shared and liked thousands of times on Facebook.

Many who commented on it wrote that were touched by the photo, with some writing that love knows no boundaries, and that it has inspired hopes of love and racial harmony for future generations.

One woman wrote: "We may be adults but we're never too old to learn. This is how it should be for all of us."
