A man was fatally shot while walking on a sidewalk near an elementary school in the Florence-Firestone area of South Los Angeles early Wednesday.
The shooting occurred in the 1900 block of Firestone Boulevard at about 1:42 a.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release.
Arriving deputies found a man on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper torso, the news release stated.
The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Witnesses told investigators the victim was walking on the Firestone Boulevard sidewalk when a dark colored vehicle approached and a man inside opened fire.
The shooting scene is near Graham Elementary School, Google Maps showed.
There was no immediate word on a motive for the shooting and it was unclear if it was gang related, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
