A caller reported the incident to police at about 11:30 p.m. Monday night, said Officer Chan with the Los Angeles Police Department.

The driver was headed southbound on South La Brea Avenue near the intersection of St. Elmo Drive when the pedestrian, who was walking in an unmarked crosswalk, was struck, Chan said.

The driver, who was believed to have been driving a white or silver sedan, fled the scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was listed in serious condition, Chan said.
