A 45-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday for his role in a decades-old kidnapping and revenge murder, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.

Shannon Ray Gries pleaded guilty to one count of felony murder in the death of Gonzalo Ramirez, whose mutilated body was found along an Irvine road in April 1995, the district attorney’s office said in a press release.

The revenge plot stemmed from an allegation by co-defendant Norma Patricia Esparza, 38, to her ex-boyfriend, Gianni Anthony Van, that Ramirez had raped her.

Esparza pleaded guilty Sept. 12, 2014, to one felony count of voluntary manslaughter. Another co-defendant, Diane Tran, 47, pleaded guilty Jan. 24, 2014, to one felony count of voluntary manslaughter.
