A suspect who was allegedly armed inside a Walmart in Amarillo, Texas, has been shot by authorities and is apparently dead, according to Sonja Gross, a spokeswoman for the city of Amarillo.

Authorities responded to the store amid reports of an armed person inside “who may have hostages,” the Amarillo Police Department said Tuesday. Residents were asked to avoid the area.

The suspect is apparently dead, according to the police department, and the hostages are safe.

The incident occurred just days after the mass shooting in an Orlando nightclub, where 49 people were killed.
