This is just in time for the Summer! OPERATION SPLASH! Free swimming classes for low income children and adults, courtesy Kaiser Permanente and the LA 84 Foundation.
Free swim lessons for approximately 6,000 children, teenagers and adults at 35 pools across Los Angeles as well as junior lifeguard scholarships for 780 youngsters are available at 47 sites.

In an effort to get children reading this summer, the Scholastic Summer Reading Road Trip RV visits Children’s Books World bookstore today at 10am. Youngsters and their families will have the opportunity to participate in their very own “pop-up” reading festival, meet some of their favorite authors, and engage in fun reading activities.

The RVs will visit 20 U.S. cities nationwide throughout the summer, traveling more than 10,000 miles to spread the message about the importance of summer reading to kids.

This is new at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. It’s the exhibit “VANISHING ANIMALS.” Visitors learn about animal extinctions and our relationship with our planet. Examples include freshwater streams, coral reefs, and the Atlantic Cod.

Also, we’re taught about conservation efforts that have stopped extinction.
By the way, for the Fourth of July holiday weekend, we see this and more for the discounted admission price of $14.95 after 5pm, instead of the usual $29.99, now through Thursday, July 7th.

This is new for the Summer at Lyon Air Museum in Santa Ana. “The Elegance of Mercedes-Benz,” features EIGHT Mercedes-Benz automobiles representing four decades of the classic automobile, including the 1937 540K Special Roadster.

Another superstar of this exhibit, the gull wing 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL. This classic coupe, with a top speed of more than 160 miles per hour, was the fastest production car at the time and featured the first-ever production fuel injection system.
