A woman in her 20s was shot and killed and a man wounded when a gunman opened fire near a barbecue stand in the parking lot of a Pep Boys in Harbor City Friday afternoon, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The shooting was reported about 1:50 p.m. in the 1300 block of Pacific Coast Highway, near the intersection with Frampton Avenue.

The gunman was firing randomly in the direction of the "Wheaton's Eatins" stand set up in the parking lot, according to LAPD Detective David Cortez.

A woman who was working at the food stand was immediately hit and fell to the ground, according to Cortez.

She was identified by family and friends as Jennifer Dickerson of Compton.

After shooting Dickerson, witnesses said the gunman chased a man working at the booth down the street and shot him in the arm.

Both victims were transported to a hospital, where Dickerson later died. The man was treated and released.

Witnesses said the shooter had something covering his face, possibly a bandana. It was not clear if he fled the scene on foot or in a vehicle.

Investigators were checking security video from the store and other businesses in the area.
