Riverside police asked for help Thursday in their search for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a 9-year-old girl inside a Kmart.
On June 25 the man approached and assaulted the girl around 8:30 p.m. inside the Kmart located in the 3000 block of Iowa Avenue.
Officer Ryan Railsback said the man put his hand under the girl's skirt while she was in one of the aisles. The girl then ran to her mother and told her what happened. The mother then alerted authorities.
“He didn't take her into a bathroom or changing room. He just did it out there,” Railsback said.
After committing the crime, the man fled the store. It is unknown if he left the area by foot or in a car.
A woman who answered the phone at the store did not comment on the incident.
The man can be seen on store surveillance footage on the Riverside Police Department's YouTube page.
He is described as a Hispanic man last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and gray shorts.
