One person was killed, and four others were injured late Friday on the 71 Freeway in Pomona after one car, traveling at a high rate of speed, lost control, officials reported.
The two car crash occurred about 11:49 p.m. on the southbound side of the highway near Old Pomona Road, said Los Angeles County Fire Department Supervisor Miguel Ornelas. One person was ejected from a car, and pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Two other people were critically injured in the crash and airlifted to a local hospital.
Two others suffered minor injuries, Ornelas said.
A preliminary investigation into the deadly crash showed one car was traveling northbound at a high rate of speed, lost control and crashed into another car that was going southbound on the freeway, the Pomona Police Department reported.
The 71 Freeway in Pomona was closed in both directions following the crash, but all lanes were reopened as of Saturday morning.
