Elias Rodriguez was detained around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday and placed in the Ventura County Jail with bail set at $125,000, Oxnard Police Sgt. Jeff McGreevy said.

Rodriguez is a documented member of an Oxnard criminal street gang and has a lengthy criminal history, according to authorities.

Local police responded to the scene of the residential burglary near the intersection of Cesar Chavez Drive and Rose Avenue after an Oxnard resident called 911 regarding a home intruder. Although Rodriguez allegedly fled the site once authorities were alerted, McGreevy said a witness was able to keep the suspect in view long enough to guide responding police units to his exact location in the neighborhood.

Officers found a laptop computer in Rodriguez’s possession, which they said is tied to another residential burglary on the same street the day before.
