UPS Expected to Hire 95,000 Seasonal Employees for Holiday Season
UPS announced Wednesday that the company expects to hire 95,000 seasonal employees as it ramps up operations amid the anticipation of another busy holiday season.
The full- and part-time positions are for various shifts across the country, including package handlers, drivers and driver-helpers, according to a news release on the company’s website. Officials said they expect an increased volume in packages beginning in November and lasting through January.
UPS noted that part-time employment has been an entry point for permanent work at the company, and that CEO David Abney and other executives got their start that way.
More than 37 percent of those hired for seasonal package handler jobs from the 2012 through 2014 holiday seasons were later promoted to full-time employment at UPS, the release stated.
“For many it’s an opportunity to earn some extra cash for the holidays,” Abney said in the release. “But with many of our holiday hires getting permanent jobs with us, it can also be a gateway to a career.”
