Police were searching for the occupants of a stolen vehicle who fled on foot near a Laguna Hills hospital and eluded capture following a pursuit in Orange County Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
The car was a white SUV with a man and woman inside, and possibly with an additional passenger in the backseat, Cpl. Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police Department said.
As of late Thursday night, police were still searching for the SUV's occupants.
The chase began on State Route 55 around 3:50 p.m. near MacArthur Boulevard in Santa Ana.
The car then pulled onto side streets in Laguna Hills, dashing across intersections and driving across all lanes on both side of the roads.
Around 4:50 p.m., the vehicle pulled into the parking area at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, where authorities began assembling to cut off the driver's escape route.
The SUV's occupants then fled on foot. Officers were searching the hospital grounds and secured the perimeter.
Around 5:25 p.m. the medical center and surrounding offices were evacuated as the search continued.
