Person Dies in Fontana Following Report of Possible Assault, Prompting Homicide Investigation

A homicide investigation is underway in Fontana after a person was found dead near a residence, police said Monday.

Officers responded to the 16400 block of San Bernardino Avenue after receiving a call regarding a possible assault, the Fontana Police Department said in a news release.

The incident took place Monday around 3:30 a.m., not far from Cypress Elementary School, the San Bernardino Sun reported.

A Fontana police sergeant told the newspaper that a woman called 911 to report that a relative had been stabbed.

The victim died at the scene, police said. The person has not been identified, but the newspaper described him as a man between the ages of 35 and 40.

A stretch of road near the elementary school was temporarily closed Monday morning amid the investigation, according to the Sun.
