Surveillance video shows a man punching a woman outside a Venice store on Sept. 25, 2016.

A 44-year-old man has been charged with battery with serious injury after allegedly sucker punching a woman outside of a Venice market earlier this month, Los Angeles County District Attorney’s officials said Friday.

The incident occurred on Oct. 4 after a short interaction inside the market. The victim and the suspect, Michael Joseph Fino, then went outside and Fino allegedly punched the woman, knocking her to the ground, video of the incident showed.

The two apparently do not know each other, the DA’s office said in a news release.

Fino has several prior convictions, including battery with serious bodily injury in 1994, possession of methamphetamine for sale and identity theft in 2007 and second-degree burglaries in 2011 and 2013, officials said.

Fino pleaded not guilty to the Oct. 4 incident on Thursday and is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 3.
