Jana Nguwen spotted the bleeding dog on the side of the road, surrounded by trash and barely moving Monday afternoon, television station KPRC in Houston reported.

Nguwen then flagged down an officer, and soon officials with the Houston Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals were also at the site to help.

The SPCA officers took to the dog to a nearby vet to be worked on, KPRC reported.

“They have taken the dog to do some surgery and see if they can save the dog, but it’s our understanding she’s in bad shape,” said Constable Mark Herman.

The dog later had to be euthanized due to the extent of her injuries, the television station reported.

The SPCA found the dog had multiple tumors and punctures, and her skull had been crushed beyond repair, KTLA sister station KIAH in Houston reported.

Authorities are now searching for anyone who may be responsible.

A $5,000 reward has been offered for information leading to an arrest, according to KIAH.
