Authorities were called to the 1900 block of Wallace Avenue after someone reported a stabbing there at about 7:30 p.m., said Lt. Greg Scott with the Costa Mesa Police Department.

Officers found three victims, including an 11-year-old boy who had been “stabbed several times in the chest,” Scott said.

The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital and was undergoing surgery, Scott said Tuesday night.

The boy’s older brother and mother also suffered stab wounds and were hospitalized, Scott said.

All three victims, who were not identified, were in stable condition as of Wednesday morning, said Sgt. Patrick Wessel of the Police Department.

An officer was also injured while taking a man into custody in connection with the stabbing, Scott said.

The officer was doing fine and was home resting, Wessel said Wednesday.

The identity of the man taken into custody was not released.
