A search is underway for whoever fatally shot a man in Pacoima early Thursday morning.
The shooting was reported about 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Oneida Avenue and Chamberlain Street, said Capt. Jim Setzer of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Mission Area station.
Arriving officers found a Hispanic man suffering from a gunshot wound, said LAPD Sgt. Bennie Boatwright.
The victim, who was not identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, Boatwright said.
Investigators believe the victim was in the neighborhood to visit a friend when he was shot on the street, Setzer said.
The victim’s friends were cooperating with investigators, but police did not have a description of the shooter or any vehicle associated with the shooter, Setzer said.
It was unclear if the victim was targeted or if the shooting was random, Setzer said.
KTLA’s Stephen Acosta contributed to this report.
