A man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver after getting out of his pickup, which was having mechanical issues, in Sylmar Monday morning, officials said.
The driver then began walking south along Foothill Boulevard when he was fatally struck about 7 a.m. by another driver near the bike lane, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Detective William Bustos said the vehicle possibly sustained significant front-end damage and the right side mirror is missing.
Investigators believe the vehicle involved is a 2011 to 2016 white Chevrolet Cruze.
Neighbors described the area as a speed trap where no speed limit signs are posted.
A man who identified himself as the victim’s nephew left flowers and candles at the scene of the crash. The victim has not been identified.
