Pomona Police Department officers received a call around 8 p.m. after the child was dropped off by a family member at Pomona Valley Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, authorities said in a press release.

The boy told police he was in an alleyway in the 800 block of East La Verne Avenue when he heard a gunshot and was struck by a bullet.
