Abandoned Suitcase Found Near Schools in Walnut Deemed Safe; Middle School Remains Closed

A suitcase that was abandoned at a bus stop in Walnut that was being investigated as suspicious Tuesday morning has been deemed safe, but a middle school in the area remains closed, officials said.

The suitcase was spotted about 6:30 a.m. near Suzanne Middle School, at 525 Suzanne Rd. and the school was closed.

La Puente Road was closed between Gartel and Pierre road while Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials investigated, authorities said in a news alert.

The north side of Walnut High School was blocked, but eventually reopened.

Aerial video from Sky5 showed sheriff’s vehicles and a fire truck blocking the north side of the campus. The suitcase was also seen sitting upright on a bus bench.

The middle school remains closed, officials said in an updated news alert.
