A person who was apparently injured after being shot by police in the Westlake district then got away from authorities, according to the LAPD.

The incident occurred about 5 p.m. near the intersection of West 8th and Alvarado streets, said Los Angeles Police Officer Mike Lopez.

It is unclear why police were called to the area, but at some point an officer-involved shooting occurred, Lopez said.

No officers were injured, but police believe the person was hit and then fled the scene.

Officers were checking area hospitals for any gunshot wound walk-ins, Lopez said.

The person remains at large.
