One man was gravely wounded and another two sustained minor injuries following what police suspect was a car-to-car shooting Saturday in Riverside, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of University Avenue, just across Interstate 215 from UC Riverside, according to a press release from the Riverside Police Department. Responding officers found one man with a gunshot wound to his head in a red sedan that had run into a sign, and two other men in a silver car that had run into a light pole, officials said.
The passenger in the silver vehicle had a gunshot wound to his upper arm, while the driver only sustained minor injuries, police said. All three men were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, and the man shot in the head was in grave condition.
Initial investigation indicated both cars were stopped at a red light at the intersection of University Avenue and Iowa Avenue when their occupants exchanged gunfire, officers said. Authorities were, however, unaware of what led to the confrontation.
Police did not identify the men and the incident is still under investigation.
