Officers responded to reports of a shooting Sunday evening in the Gramercy Park neighborhood of South L.A., authorities said.
The Los Angeles Police Department received reports of the incident at a McDonald’s near Manchester and Normandie avenues around 6:20 p.m., according to Officer Ryan Hagaman. He described the scene as very active as police searched for two or three suspects.
One victim was shot outside the restaurant and then ran inside, LAPD Lt. Chris Ramirez said. The man was shot in the leg and still alive, he added.
Authorities did not immediately disclose further details, but residents were urged to avoid the area.
Although initial reports suggested the gunman may still be inside the restaurant, it was later learned the person had fled the scene, the Los Angeles Times reported.
