The incident began about 3:25 a.m. near the intersection of Serapis Avenue and Telegraph Road, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department LT. Tenney said.

Deputies spotted a suspected car thief in a vehicle, but the person fled on foot when he noticed authorities, Tenney said.

Deputies believe the man ran into a house just north of Telegraph road, and were attempting to get him out, Tenney said.

Video showed an armored vehicle and SWAT team had been moved to the area.

A containment area set up around the home was broken down about 9 a.m. after authorities determined the man was no longer in the area, Lt. Villanueva said.

Authorities described the suspected car thief as a 25-year-old Hispanic man, but have not released his name.
