Officers Respond to Triple Shooting in South L.A.; Gunman Dead, Victims Likely to Survive

Authorities were investigating a shooting in Los Angeles Tuesday night that wounded a mother and her two children and left the gunman dead, police said.

Officers responded to reports of shots being fired on the 1400 block of East 51st Street in the Central-Alameda area south of downtown just after 10 p.m., according to Los Angeles Police Department Lt. Alex Baez.

The victims — a 39-year-old mother, her 16-year-old daughter and 8-year-old son — were able to approach police when they arrived on scene and their injuries did not appear life-threatening, Baez said.

The perpetrator, a 51-year-old man, is deceased, Baez said, but it was unclear how he died.

Police had not yet determined a motive and no further details were immediately available.
