Deputies responded to the home in the 15700 block of Cornuta Avenue about 10:47 p.m. Thursday on a family disturbance call involving an armed man who was threatening to shoot his father, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release.

The father managed to get out of the house, but the gunman’s bedridden grandmother and the grandmother’s caretaker were still inside and unable to leave, the Sheriff’s Department stated.

Special Enforcement Bureau deputies arrived at the scene and made several unsuccessful attempts to get the man to surrender before eventually entering the home and rescuing the grandmother and her caretaker.

Deputies then searched the home for the gunman but were unable to find him.

None of the family members were injured in the incident, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Authorities have not identified the man who fled the home.

Nearby residents who were forced to evacuate their homes have been allowed to return.

Anyone with information about the incident was asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department at 562-623-3500. Those who wish to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
