Man Fatally Shot in Deputy-Involved Shooting in East Los Angeles; No Deputies Injured

A man was shot early Saturday in a deputy-involved shooting in East Los Angeles, officials reported.

The shooting happened about 1:22 a.m. in the 900 block of La Verne Avenue when deputies responded to a call of a gunshot victim, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Deputies entered the residence to investigate the shooting and encountered a man armed with a shotgun, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred, LASD officials said.

Two deputies fired their weapons and struck the man.

He was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

No deputies were injured in the shooting.

A shotgun was recovered at the scene.

Detectives are still trying to confirm whether someone was shot at the location prior to their arrival.
