A man barricaded himself and attacked two family members inside a Santa Monica home leading to a police standoff Friday night, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

Police were called to a home in the 200 block of 19th Street around 6:32 p.m. Two men broke into the home shortly before authorities arrived and the family was inside the home at the time of the break-in, police said.

A father and son attempted to fight the men off after they entered the home and suffered significant injuries, according to officials.

"We have two victims that have been transported to a local hospital," said Lt. Saul Rodriguez. "One suffered a stab wound and has been transported with severe injuries to a hospital. The second suffered minor injuries from a blunt type object that he was struck by."

Officers warned residents in the area to lock their doors and windows and avoid the area, in a tweet. One witness told KTLA that he saw a man covered in blood being taken away from the scene.

"One guy had his shirt off and he had blood, and then they took a stretcher out," said Julian Davis, a witness. "We saw the guy that actually got stabbed. Then the mom came out to us and ran up to this woman next to me and hugged her and said 'it was my son. My son just got stabbed and my husband tried to stop him.'"

The barricaded man was taken into custody on 20th Street around 9:30 p.m. after police used flash bang grenades, according to police.

The second suspect fled northbound in a possible gold and black Mustang, officials said.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
