Mark Kono is the pilot/reporter in Sky5 on the KTLA Morning News.

Mark is a home-grown Angeleno, born and raised in Hollywood. A professional helicopter pilot for over 25 years, his operational background includes electronic news gathering (ENG), executive charter, aerial photography, production, offshore and lifesaving medical flights.

His experience has taken him to various parts of the country, where he’s flown for several major media outlets including KSAZ-TV in Phoenix and KGO-TV in San Francisco, as well as KCBS-TV, KNBC-TV, KABC-TV and KTTV-TV in Los Angeles.

Honored with several Emmy awards for his work on the KTLA Morning News, he balances an active lifestyle with his wife, KTLA’s traffic anchor Ginger Chan.

They have a son and twin daughters who are, of course, big fans of the KTLA 5 Morning News.

His work has been recently featured in various publications, including Heliweb Magazine, the Hot Rod Network and Roadkill.

    One person died after a crash on the 91 Freeway in the Buena Park area early Tuesday, according to the California Highway Patrol. The collision happened on the Eastbound 91 Freeway near Beach Boulevard. No other injuries were reported, CHP spokesperson Monica Posada said.
