    A lunar eclipse will occur this Wednesday, Oct 8, from 2:15 to 5:34 AM PDT. The eclipse will reach totality at 3:25 AM and continue through 4:24 AM. Unfortunately viewing will not be the best in extreme Southwest CA as patchy low clouds along the immediate coast and scattered to broken mid and high clouds from Tropical Storm Simon will obstruct the view. Hopefully there will be enough breaks in the clouds to see the moon!

    As in all things weather related, there is still a bit of uncertainty as to whether we will be experiencing an El Niño year or not or if so how strong it will be. However, based on water temperature averages in the Pacific from February to April of this year, the National Weather Service has issued and El Niño Watch.     Gusty west to northwest winds will impact portions of southwest California through late Tuesday night. The strongest winds will be over the mountains of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties and in the Antelope Valley. Wind gusts up to 50 mph are expected.     A ridge of high pressure building into the Great Basin will bring northeast winds tonight through Thursday, with the peak winds expected Wednesday morning. Damaging gusts up to 70 mph are expected across the mountain ridges of the Inland Empire. The ridge aloft combined with offshore flow will also bring significant warming starting Tuesday.     A fast-moving system will cross southwest California bringing mainly light rain along with gusty southwest to northwest winds. Showers will spread southward across Ventura and Los Angeles Counties Friday night into early Saturday. The best chance of showers will be Friday evening and overnight before sunrise Saturday.
