ARCADIA, Calif. (KTLA) — The Winter/Spring horse racing season at Santa Anita Park officially opened despite showers Wednesday morning.

Track spokesman Mike Willman said earlier the show would go on rain or shine.

Opening day features three graded stakes races as part of a 9-race card.

Fans who showed up for opening day received a 2013 Santa Anita wall calendar.

Santa Anita Park opens its 76th winter/spring meeting, featuring the world’s best Thoroughbred horse
racing action. It’s the first day of a 71-day meeting that is sure to feature many promising three-year-old
horses on the trail to the Kentucky Derby and the other Triple Crown races. Last year, the winner and
second-place horse from both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness came from Santa Anita, as well as
the second-place horse at the Belmont Stakes.  Live racing action begins at noon on Wednesday, December 26th
with races every 30 minutes the rest of the day.

Opening Day – Wednesday (December 26)
Gates open at 10 a.m., first race at noon
Noon-5 p.m. – Live horse racing
Dress to impress and wear your best hat for the “Fascinators and Fedoras” contest
