SYLMAR (KTLA) — A man dubbed by police as the “Ear Gauge” stalker is in custody after turning himself in.

Just hours after police released a composite sketch of the suspect, 20-year-old Kevion Ray Hunt walked into the San Fernando LAPD station with his mother to turn himself in.

Hunt’s mother told detectives that she wanted to speak with investigators because she knew police were looking for her son.

Hunt was booked on charges of attempted rape and is being held on $100,000 bail.

Police say the ‘Ear Gauge’ suspect was connected to assaults of two women at an apartment complex in Sylmar last weekend.

In both cases he engaged the women in small talk before grabbing them.

In his second attack, the suspect dragged the woman from the area and into a secluded spot before passersby confronted him.

Both women were able to get away unharmed.

“The suspect’s bold behavior speaks to someone who is impulsive and probably compulsive,” said Lt. Paul Vernon, head of the Mission Detective Division.

SYLMAR, Calif. (KTLA) — Police have released a sketch of the so-called “Ear Gauge Stalker” who assaulted two women at an apartment complex in Sylmar.

The attacks happened early Sunday morning at the Mountain View Manor Apartments.

In the first case, the suspect approached a woman in her 30s who was pushing a baby in a stroller around 2:40 a.m.

Police say that he started with small talk, and then reached under the woman’s dress and groped her. The victim screamed and he ran away.

About an hour later, the same man approached another woman who was also walking back to her apartment.

He engaged her in small talk, and then grabbed her and dragged her into a secluded area, trying to undress her. Two passersby confronted the suspect and scared him off.

Both women described the suspect as having large gauge piercings in both earlobes.

He is described as a black male in his mid-20s, about 5’8″ tall and 160 pounds. He was either wearing a hoodie or a baseball cap.

“The suspect’s bold behavior speaks to someone who is impulsive and probably compulsive,” said Lt. Paul Vernon, head of the Mission Detective Division.

“I would expect he’s been arrested, if not convicted, for similar behavior,” Vernon added.

Detectives have canvased the apartment complex since the incident, warning residents.

They have also distributed crime alerts to nearby Sylmar High School and L.A. Mission College.

Anyone with information on this crime is urged to call Det. Luz Montero, Mission Area Sexual Assault Unit, at (818) 838-9975.

SYLMAR, Calif. (KTLA) — A sexual predator with distinctive ear gauge piercings is on the loose in Sylmar, and police fear he could strike again.

Police say the man attacked two women early Sunday morning at the Mountain View Manor Apartments.

The suspect dragged one woman 60 feet across a courtyard, beating her. But her screams drew the attention of neighbors, and he ran away.

The other woman was groped in a hallway as she was coming home from a party around 2 a.m. with her 2-year-old son.

“A guy entered here and asked me about my boyfriend,” Araceli Martinez told KTLA.

She quickly turned away to try to unlock her front door. She says that’s when the suspect reached up under her skirt and grabbed her.

The man also struck Martinez across the face several times. She finally escaped — all the while concerned more about her son’s safety than her own.

“I started to scream,” she said. “I looked at my baby. I was very afraid because I thought he can do something to my baby.”

Authorities have dubbed the man the “Ear Gauge Stalker” because of his ear piercings.

Martinez told KTLA that the suspect was a black male, possibly as young as 18 years old.

Police are investigating two separate attacks on women in a Sylmar apartment complex on Sunday.  Chris Wolfe reports.
