Story Summary

Season of Sharing

Gayle Anderson was live in Chino for the KTLA Season of Sharing food drive. KTLA 5, Stater Bros and Jerome’s Furniture have joined forces to collect donations to benefit local food banks. Donations will be given to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Second Harvest Food Bank Orange County, and Second Harvest Food Bank Riverside & San Bernardino for distribution to those most in need this holiday season.

According to a study by the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) in February 2013, three metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) in Southern California are listed in the Top 25 MSA for food hardship in 2011-12. Bakersfield, CA is ranked as #1 followed by Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario at #6 and Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana at #23. MSAs are defined by the Census Bureau as areas that include central cities plus surrounding counties with strong economic and social ties to the central cities.

Most needed donated items include canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned soup, canned tuna, canned stews, beans, rice, pasta, peanut butter (in plastic containers), as well as Thanksgiving items, such as canned pumpkin, canned cranberry sauce, stuffing mix etc. Kid-friendly items are also needed, such as granola bars, raisins, fruit cups, whole-grain crackers, peanut butter and jelly, cereal, nuts and juice boxes (100% juice).
