Ironman is 140.6 miles of swimming, biking and running in some of the most brutal conditions imaginable – across the lava fields of Kona, Hawaii. Hines and the other “Become One” athletes will make their official debut together in Los Angeles on Saturday at Endurance Live – the “Oscars of Endurance Sports.”
ABOUT HINES WARD
Hines Ward retired from professional football in 2011 after a stellar 14-year career in which he caught 1,000 career receptions, won two league championships and earned title-game MVP honors. Ward was known to make big plays, but he also was a tenacious competitor who never took a down off, and who blocked downfield with the ferocity of an offensive lineman. The 2013 Ironman World Championship triathlon will present his most daunting challenge yet, as Ward will train fiercely to recondition his body and take his game from the football field to the lava fields of Kona.
ABOUT PAULA NEWBY-FRASER (Hines’ Coach):
Paula Newby-Fraser is the only triathlete to transcend the sport. Certainly, she is one of the greatest triathletes of all time. She has broken the tape at the Ironman World Championships in Kona a record eight times, and her 24 Ironman career championships are more than twice that won by triathlon legends Mark Allen and Erin Baker (eight each) and Dave Scott (seven).
